Talk:Imladris

Isn't rather Rivendell the commonly used name, and Imladris archaic term?

Probably[edit]

As far as I recall (I don't have my references handy) elves call it Imladris and it's Rivendell in the Westron tongue the hobbits use.

Gondorian (which Faramir and Boromir speak) appears to be close relation in language terms to Sindarin: in the book in the chapter where they're captured by Faramir's men, Sam and Frodo comment on the fact that when the two rangers who are keeping guard over them speak to each other, it's in a tongue close to the elven tongue. So I've always assumed that Faramir and Boromir would call it Imladris rather than Rivendell - and it's that name it was given in their shared dream-vision-thing, "Seek for the sword that was broken/In Imladris it dwells..."

But...we are still only playing with this system, aren't we? And in any case if we decide it would be handier for us and for users to change it, we can change it.

Yes we are only playing with the system...[edit]

...and I think you have proven you have figured out how it works. Now -please- let other people have a go.

Oh. OK.[edit]

Let me know when you've made a final decision.

If we should decide to go with this system, there will be an announcement on the main site, on the forum (to let everyone there know it is shutting down), and here; links to the interactive story will be changed to go here instead of to the old script and the old script will be altered to take no new chapters - so don't worry, you'll know.

For now though, there doesn't seem to be much interest here or in the old system. Maybe we’re still experiencing the customary summer slow-down, or maybe we should reconsider if there is need to continue with either of them.

If it helps, I'm only quiet in posting on the story because I haven't been well and because I've been busy. Tinkering with this doesn't take nearly as much time.

I expect to get back into writing when I'm better --- and when work slows down a bit.

Best wishes then!

Thing is, it's always bad when one user takes too big a role; becomes too dominating. Goes for pages here as well as interactive chapters. Since we're only just getting started and don't have many chapters yet, one user who really gets stuck in can easily get overpowering which can be intimidating for other users, who might refrain from getting involved.

Interactive stories such as Esteliel's can easily cope with such enthusiasm because they have over a thousand chapters each, and plenty of writers already, but with ours at just 50, it's a really bad sign if any one user writes the bulk of that. It's like marking territory: it scares other people away.
